“This is my da, Jimmy O’Reardon, from Donnycarney, Dublin 5, taken in 1962 on O’Connell Bridge by a photographer from Max Studio – not Arthur. He was 21 and had just come from signing his contract to join Irish Shipping (on Aston Quay) when this photo was taken. Soon after he set
sail around the world and in 1964 emigrated to Australia. In 1974 I came along (after my brother). Although my da has been all over the world and has only been back to Dublin once in all that time, he is still fiercely proud to be Irish (and sounds it). More important, he’s taught my brother and me to be proud too.”
