“Myself and my uncle Ned Phelan in the summer of 1960. When my mother got TB in 1947, all eight children were sent to relations. I had just been born and I was sent to my uncle in Newbridge. After six months, my mother was better, but they decided to hold on to me in Newbridge because they were fond of me. My parents would come down from Crumlin to get me and my aunt would say, “Leave him for another while, leave him for another while.” They left me for another while and I’m there ever since. I have great memories of growing up in Newbridge and all the mischief I got up to. People still know me as Liam Phelan but I am most certainly Liam O’Keefe.”
