“It’s of me and my parents and I remember it as a very happy time. THe clothes on me and on my mother were almost all made by her – certainly the coats. The memory is in black and white but the colour wasn’t much better. Everyone wore muted colours. Passing cars were black, brown, dark blue…even ads were devoid of vibrancy. I wrecked this photo as a youngster messing with one of my mother’s dressmaking tools by raking it with pin-pricks…”
