“Me and my mother, Eileen Ryan. She took me into Dublin City on Saturday 25 June 1949 to buy me a present. It was a helicopter and it was purchased in Woolworths in Henry Street. Afterwards she brought me into Cafolla’s café for a cake and ice cream and I was so excited about the helicopter that I opened
up the box on the floor of the café to play with it. My fifth birthday was 28 June, the following Tuesday.”
