“My Aunts – Nessie (left) and Pearl Brown of Dundonald Co. Down taken during a visit to Dublin August 1941.
Nessie would have been 30 and Pearl was 25 at the time. My fathers’ family were regular visitors to the ‘Free State’. Their father – James Brown was the Northern General Secretary of The Irish Bakers’, Confectioners’ and Allied Workers’ Amalgameted Union. They may have been down with him while he helped plan the development of Four Province house or they may just have been on a smuggling trip for Butter, Nylons, Cigarettes etc!”
