“This is a picture of my Grandmother Annie Ryan (Ní McCabe-holding parcel) and my Auntie Maureen Ryan (later Fortune – 1918-1998). It was taken the week before she went into hospital for a routine operation during which she died unexpectedly (25th March 1941 aged 56). The parcel contains slippers purchased in preparation of her going into hospital. We believe this is the last picture taken of her. (The photo has the following written in pencil on the back: S6846 which we assume is a reference number)”
