“This is my father Michael McGrath from Tuam, Co. Galway. The photo says ‘Earl Photo Studio, 8 Nrth Earl St., Dublin at the back so I think this is a different photographer?? I saw some of Arthur’s photos and they are taken in exactly the same spot with the ‘Chemist’ sign behind them so then I thought maybe it is one of Arthurs and that he used Earl Photos to develop his photos??
Michael would have been in Dublin on one of his many trips through work, he worked for a big shopkeeper in Tuam owned by Joseph Hare and Sons and they also had travelling shops and Egg Storeand would get paid for groceries with eggs by the many farmers wives in the locality. These eggs would have to be brought to Dublin with other articles to the docklands etc., and other goods transported back to tuam. Michael drove the trucks and often when he was courting my mother she would go with him on these trips. In fact the truck was loaned to them to go to Dublin on their honeymoon and they stayed in Wynns Hotel, Abbey St., This photo was taken 2 years after they go married.
