“Myself and my friend Brian Howard. At the time, the two of us were fishing on the same vessel, the MFV Brian Óg out of Skerries Harbour. We were on the herring and this photo was taken after our first big pay cheque from a week’s fishing. Herring fishing is a very adrenaline-filled pursuit; you have to spot it, chase it and catch it. It’s also very competitive, and after this big catch, we felt on top of the world. We were only seventeen and we headed into town to spend a few bob and buy a bit of gear. We fished together on and off for the next twenty years or so.”
