“Left to right – Martha Dalton, my mother Sheila Quirke (nee Phelan) and Nora Sweeney. The photo was taken on the 25th of September 1944 after the All-Ireland football final between Roscommon and Kerry. Sheila, Nora and Martha were student nurses in Sir Patrick Dun’s hospital at the time and as they were all off duty that Sunday afternoon they walked into O’Connell Street where they met the crowd leaving the match. All three remained best friends all of their lives.”
