“This is my brother John Cooper and I with my Uncle George. My grandmother was the caretaker of the Ballast Office on Aston Quay and Westmorland Street. She jokingly use to say her family was ‘high society of Dublin because they lived on the entire top floor of the building. They had a magnificent view of O’Connell Bridge/Street and Westmorland Street. My siblings and I use to play on the roof and the coal cellar. The views were spectacular of the whole of Dublin from the roof. We also had a prime position for all of the St Patrick’ s day parades. As you can see from my cardigan, the Ballast Office was and adventurous place for us kids in those days when visiting my Nan. ”
