“In this photo are my grandparents, Bill and Josephine Cunningham (nee Duignan). They lived in Finglas Park. My grandmother was originally from Imaal Road in Cabra and my grandfather from St. Ignatius Road in Drumcondra. My grandfather worked as an upholsterer in Clerys in Dublin. He was very active in the Finglas community, working to improve the amenities and livelihoods of people in the area. With my grandmother, he launched and ran a newspaper called the Finglas Digest (the slogan was ‘Read the best: the Finglas Digest’). This ran for a short period of time. He also ran for Clann na Poblachta in the 1955 local elections. In 1960, he died at the age of 38. My grandmother died in 2006 at the age of 83.”
