“My parents, Michael Brennan and Rose (née Matthews), from Glasnevin, walking over O’Connell Bridge in March 1942. He lived in St David’s Terrace, Glasnevin, and Rose in Goldsmith Street, Phibsborough. They met in the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. They were photographed in Dublin city a number of times between 1942 and 1945, during which time they were dating. On the backs of some of their photos are the words “with love, Michael” or “with love, Rose”. It seems as if they got the photos taken to give to each other, and to keep as memories of those days. Rose had a great sense of fashion and made a lot of her own clothes. She made her own wedding dress, and made her children’s clothes when they were youngsters. They lived in Glasnevin for the rest of their lives. They were married 49 years when Rose went to heaven in October 1995, and Michael followed her four years later.”
