“I’m from NewBridge and our parish priest, Monseigneur Miller, always said that if you don’t get a woman in your own town, go into the next one. I met my wife in Kildare Town and this is me, Liam, and my wife, Phyllis, on 1st January 1970. It was the first day of our honeymoon and we spent a few days up in Dublin in the Shelbourne Hotel. We went to the pantomine in the Gaiety, Fiddler on the Roof in the Ambassador, Oliver in the Carlton Cinema on O’Connell Street. We’re married 45 years.”
