“Annette Owens, Claire Bolger and Ann Rafter. This was taken on the night of JFKs assassination, November 22nd 1963. We were going door to door in housing estates in our Order of Malta Uniforms collecting money. The news was only breaking. As doors opened, people were crying and were giving us updates. I remember one woman saying that he was only shot in the neck, he was going to be okay. As a first-aider I knew that if he was hit in the neck, it’d be difficult to survive. On the way back, we decided to get our photo taken, not with any purpose or any logic that this date would become so famous. Looking at the photo you would never guess the story behind it.”
