“My grandmother Maria Ginty from Ballinamuck in County Longford was 79 years old in 1965 when she travelled by train to Dublin to visit me. I was aged 21, working in the civil service, like a lot of country girls at that time, living in a flat. I don’t she had been in Dublin previously but she was sent on a mission. I had just met my future husband and the family were concerned, as he was 10 years older and widowed with two small children. I was the eldest grandchild and she and I were always close, so once she met my husband, I got the go ahead. She died in 1973 aged 87 years. Her son, my Dad, died Christmas 2013 aged 100 years.”
