“This is a photograph of my grandmother Maria Corcoran (centre), with my aunt, Katie Jennings, and my cousin, Johnny Jennings. Maria lived in Bellanierin, Castlebar, County Mayo, and her daughter Katie and her family had just moved from Conloon, Castlebar, County Mayo to County Meath. The Irish Land Commission had set up a scheme to relieve congestion in the poorest land of the west of Ireland and the family moved to Mulhussey in County Meath. Maria had paid them a visit a few days before to see the new house and farm, and her grandson took her and his mother to Dublin for a treat. It was on this trip that they met the Man on the Bridge and got their photograph taken.”
