“ack Flynn (left) and Joe Murray were members of the defence forces. Joe was a Meath man from Ratoath, born in 1916, and Jack was from County Tipperary. They had taken the bus from the Curragh Camp and were walking to the O’Connell Hall in Upper O’Connell Street to visit a ‘caged birds’ show. These army buddies had a keen interest in breeding and rearing canaries. They were neighbours back in County Kildare, and both were married. At this time Joe had three daughters and his family would later grow to seven children. Jack never had any family, so he and his wife, Veenie, became a second set of parents to us Murray kids.”
