“When I look at this photograph, lots of memories come to mind. I was about seventeen or eighteen years old when this photo was taken in 1968 or 1969. I was attending ballroom dancing classes at Morosini- Whelan’s of Henry Street at the time. I had succeeded in obtaining my bonze medal, which I still have, and was going forward in the hope of getting a silver medal. On that night, I had a dispute with my dancing partner about some dance movements. I think the pressure just got to me and I left early. I was doing a quick step home in the rain, still wearing my dancing sandals, when this photo was taken. The cross expression on my face had nothing to do with the photographer, rather this photo captures my annoyance at the events of that night.”
