“I’m attaching a photograph taken in the early to mid-60s. On the left, (looking very respectable!) is Brendan Scanlon. Ted Murphy is the ‘cool dude’ on the right. He was later to become my husband, and died last year after a long illness. I love the photo because it captures a unique time in our history and also says something about their friendship. They grew up together in Rathfarnham, south Dublin. Even though they were completely different, there was always a very special bond between them. They remained lifelong friends and Brendan spoke at Ted’s funeral.
