“This is Photo of My Grandmother Annie Murphy (Ne Arnold) on the right. She was born in the Rolestown are of north county Dublin. She died in 1964 aged 84. We are only guessing from the cloths worn as to the date of the photo. there is a number in pencil on the back of the photo 4786 and what looks like a J under the number. It’s alleged that she ran as a messenger for Michael Collins as a young woman. She married in Rathfarnham church in 1906 as this was the closest church to her employer. She was in service at that time. In the 1911 census the family were living in 19 Ben Eadar Road off Oxmanstown Rd and in the late 1940’s moved across the road to number 42 which had a large garden as apposed to the small yard at 19, she lived at 42 until her death. I was hoping it might be possible for you to give a closer date from the number on the rear of the photo. Is this possible ? We have been trying to identify the second woman in the photo, maybe it would help if we had a more accurate date.”
