“My mam, Eileen Madden (née Ryan), with my younger brother John tethered to her by a length of old string. It was the summer of 1952 and our family had just moved from Benburb Street to a new parlour house in Crumlin. My mam, like most Dubliners in the 1950s, found it difficult to adjust to her new house in the suburbs. She missed her old friends and family in the city. She continued doing her shopping in town and in this photo she is on her way from Clery’s to catch the 55 bus back to Crumlin.”
