“My father, Larry Whelan, of Rutland Avenue, Crumlin, and my mother, Maureen O’Brien, Glendun Road, Whitehall. At the time my father was working in J & R Fleming’s Manufacturing Opticians (he later worked for Yeates & Son, Grafton Street), and my mother worked in Woolworths on Henry Street. In this photo, he 25 years old and she is 20. They married in 1953. The way my mother is looking up at my father makes it a very romantic image. Both are still alive and both still dote on each other.”
