“This is my brother David Griffin with our maternal grandmother, Brigid Wade. He was her first grandchild and they had a very close bond. Having married at 35, quite late for her time, she nevertheless managed to produce five children. When this photo was taken she was the widow of a former Guinness worker, and living in Stonybatter. Originally from a farming background in County Carlow, she always dressed quite plainly, in sharp contrast to her four very stylish city daughters.”
