“My parents, Ian Henry and his “mott” Noeleen Phillips. Dad was a jazz pianist, composer and arranger, who was a pioneer of jazz in Ireland and a regularly featured artist on the RTÉ programme For Moderns, presented by T. P. McKenna. They met when Noeleen, a classical piano student, became interested in jazz (thanks to pirate station Radio Luxembourg) and began to take classes with Ian at his home in Kimmage Road. Ian qualified in medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in 1964. They were later to become Ian and Noeleen Garber.”
