“In this photo is a friend of mine, Larry, on the left, myself in the middle and my brother Tony on the right. It was the day that Dublin won the All-Ireland in 1976. The score was Dublin 3-8, Kerry 0-10. Kerry beat us in the 1975 final, so it was a grudge match and we were out on the rip. I’ve been a lifelong Dublin fan, going to Croke Park from 1957, and it was the usual mayhem that night. I think we ended up in Meaghars in Ballybough. Back then, you couldn’t really buy any fan paraphernalia (flags, hats, scarves, etc.), so we made the horns we’re holding and wrapped them in blue and white wool. We used to blow them on the Hill. The hats were butcher’s hats that we picked up from Buckley’s on Moore Street and we painted those as well. In 1978, we won the Best Flag on the Hill with a flag that said “Elvis is gone but the Dubs live on”. Happy days.”
