“My father, Leo Tracy, with four of his six children; my brother Arthur, and my sisters Olive, Cora and Margaret. This picture was taken around 1943 or 1944. They were out visiting relations to celebrate my sister Olive’s communion. Arthur, then aged thirteen, was at home on a rare visit from St Joseph’s School for the Deaf in Cabra. Olive is wearing her confirmation outfit, Cora, aged four, is on my father’s left, and Madge, aged nine, on the right. They are all in their Sunday best. This picture has travelled with us from 1950s Dublin to the USA through many years and moves. We have few photos of our parents when they were young, and even fewer of Arthur, who was a boarder at Cabra from the age of five until his late teens and was rarely allowed home. The photograph, along with a Man on the Bridge photo of my mother, Margaret Tracy, with our Aunt Kitty, are family treasures.”
