“Myself, Michael Paul, wearing a sailor suit made for me by me grandfather Michael. I was his first grandson and was named after him. He was a shipwright and sailed as far east as Shanghai in 1895 and returned via Cape Horn. My second name remembers my great-grandfather Paul Kenny who was part of the Irish Brigade and who in 1865 fought in defence of the Papal States, which were under siege from Garibaldi. The medal awarded to him by Pope Pius IX for his participation is still in possession of our family”
